Abstract

Conclusion
In conclusion, an increase of IL-6 and CRP inversely related with creatinine clearance has been evidenced in the study group of chronic predialytic patients.
The possibility of decreased clearance of CRP and/ or IL-6 as a cause of an activated acute-phase response is claimed. A negative correlation between CRP and serum albumin was found confirming the link between chronic inflammation and malnutrition in chronic renal patients.
These data however provided evidence of the activation even in the predialytic phase of renal failure mechanisms known to contribute to enhanced cardiovascular morbidity and mortality of the uremic syndrome.
