Abstract

A mathematical modelling and experimental verification has been established for the sorption/desorption processes through desiccant passages. The sorption isotherm of the silica gel passage packing is gravimetric measured at 25°C and corrected based on the Dubinin-Polanyi theory, so that the influence of the temperature over the gel equilibrium water content is being introduced. The resultant form of correlation, is directly coupled with Clausius¬Clapeyron relation, thereby the isosteric heat of sorption is mathematically evaluated.
The basic conservation equations for mass and energy are applied to an element of the passage, and yields coupled transfer relations for heat and mass balance of the air and the adjacent channel walls. The forgoing are combined with the sorption correlation to form the system equations, and simultaneously solved for the final air/bed properties through a numerical iteration program. Following a marching technique, the resultant data are then integrated along the contact passage length to yield the time dependant air outlet state properties based on the given initial and boundary conditions.
A testing rig is constructed, so that the processing and regeneration modes of blow-through streams are achieved under varieties of temperatures and air flow rates.
