Abstract Fluidized operations are known to enhance any physical or chemical process the dispersed particles being surrounded and well agitated in the fluid, a matter which permits a rapid approach towards equilibrium Fluidization is thus recommended due to its great rapidity as compared with staticbed operations .In this work , the possibility of removing ionic mercury from mercurylaiden waste water streams with cation exchangeresins, by fluidization, has been investigated Aqueous mercuric chloride solutions simulating the waste water produced at the ”Misr Chemical Industries Plant at El-Max,Alexandria, was used in the study Three types of ion exchange resins were used which were either selective as AKZO Imac TMR resin or non -selective as Duolite C20 and Amberlite IR 120 Several facto¬rs which could affect the process have been studied These were initial concentration of mercuric chloride solution , resin bed height, height to diameter ratio of column, type of resin, mixed resin mixture and solution flowrate. The used resins were regenerated with aqueous N NaCl solution and concentrated HC1 acid, after which the resins were reused in exchanging Hg-1 and their efficiencies prior and p¬oE, to regeneration compared The following are the most important results arrived at The removal is very fast in the initial stages of fluidization and is greater at the lowest initial concentr ation used. |
