Abstract

A laboratory model for simulating the contact occuring between the metal surface and the crude oil – water mixture produced from the gulf suez petroleum company. A carbon steel specimen was used which of the same kind of the metal used in the outline from the hemispheroid equipment then then the weight loss method was used to measure the corrosion rate. Moreover the X-ray diffraction was used to determine the best protection of the metal.
When the cude oil-water miture was used with different percentages of water ranging from zero % up to 25% , the following results were obtained ;
1- The higher the content of water, the higher the corrosion rate.
2- The corrosion rate increases sharply as the water content increases up to 5% after that percent, the rate increases slowly
Moreover three kinds of chemical inhibitors such as: EC-1473, WA-510, RT-910, where the addition rate (5,10,15,20,25,30) PPM for each inhibitor with adding water by 5,10,15,20,25 % for each percent of the previous inhibitors percentages with continous strirring for 24 hours then the corrosion rate was calculated using the weight loss method.
The beast surface protection at all water percentages was obtained by RT-901.
