Abstract
The design of hydraulic structures founded on permeable soils presents problems of a complex nature. Besides testing such structures for forces due to surface flow, their stability against forces caused by percolating water has to be ensured.
This percolating water produces uplift pressures acting on the bottom of the foundation for which the structure has to be made heavy enough.
