Abstract In today’s competitive world, a company must be efficient ,costeffective, and flexible if it wishes to survive. In the manufacturing and process industries, this has resulted in a greatly increased demand for industrial control system in order to streamline operations in terms of speed, reliability, versatility, and material throughput. All industrial processes need some form of control system to run safely and economically. Established control media, including relay, logic, and computer systems, can provide effective control of industrial processes and plant. However, each of the above control media has limitation or disadvantages. In recent years a special control computer, called a programmable controller (PC) or programmable logic controller (PLC), has evolved, and revolutionized control engineering by combining computing power and immense flexibility at a reasonable cost. The present Thesis deals with a survey for the control systems in different forms especially in industry field shown in chapter one. Chapter two contains a review about the PLC including history, development, internal architecture, size and types, choosing, commissioning of PLC, programming. system layout. input /output requirements and giving at last some application of using PLCincluding description of control problem, control elements and program solution. The Thesis reviews some application fields of PLC and concentrates on electric traction system in Chapter three, which contains a brief description of the main parameters of the traction cycle and an introduction to the versatile system simulator. Chapter four contains designing; performing and building up of an integrated laboratory system to simulate any system that may use a PLC (the versatile system simulator). Chapter five describes the integrated traction cycle simulator and contains the prototype model operation and digital simulator results. Chapter six includes the conclusion and recommendation |
