Abstract

The effect of antioxidants on male Sprague rats administered drugs induced free radicals was
studied in seven groups (Saline, Gentamicin ”GM”, GM plus Vitamin C. GM plus Viteselen,
Buparvaquone’Bll”, BU plus Vitamin C and BU plus Viteselen}.GM induced nephrotoxicity
revealed by increased serum creatnin, urea and BUN . The nephrotoxicity was confirmed by
disturbed histopathological and hematological finding. It also produces oxidative stress through
decreasing erythrocytic CAT and GSH contents, serum vitamin C. It also induces lipid
peroxidation as evidenced by increased serum and renal MDA .. BU induced renal and
hepatotoxicity revealed by increased serum creatnin, urea, BUN and ALT . The toxicity was
confirmed by disturbed histopathological and hematologicalfinding. BU also produces oxidative
stress through decreasing erythrocytic CA T, SOD and GSH contents, serum vitamin C and E.
lt also induces lipid peroxidation as evidenced by increased serum, hepatic and renal MDA.
Viteselen completely ameliorated oxidative stress produced by both GM and BU While vitamin
C is unable to ameliorate SOD, hepatic GSH and renal MDA in rats administered BU
