Abstract Field experiment was carried out at the Experimental Farm, Faculty of Agriculture, Suez Canal University. Ismailia during 1999/2000 and 2000/2001 seasons to study the effect of two levels of both kinetin (15 and 30 ppm) and morphactin (lOO and 200 ppm) and their interactions (15 ppm kinetin + 100 ppm morphactin, 15 ppm kinetin + 200 ppm morphactin, 30 ppm kinetin + 100 ppm morphactin and 30 ppm kinetin + 200ppm morphactin) on growth parameters, anatomical and physiological characters of two cultivars Beta vulgaris L. cvs. Univers (monogerm) and Pleno (multigerm). The following results were obtained:- 1- The curves of fresh and dry weights of leaves of most treated of the two cultivars and their controls were followed, in most cases, in very similar trends and magnitudes during their most different growth period. in general, they increased from 90 to 120 days after planting and then decreased, thereafter. 2- Although, the application of most used growth regulators decreased the plant heights of both cultivars under investigation than their controls, they increased number of leaves and their fresh and dry weights in the various sampling dates. The most effective treatments in this respect, in most cases, are the kinetin and their interaction with morphactin at low level. 3- The thickness of upper epidermis + palisade tissue of the treated two studied cultivars and mesophyll tissue in, only, most treated Univers one were increased than controls and other treatments accompanied with a reduction in lower epidermis + spongy tissue of both variety and mesophyll tissue for, only, Pleno as well. 4- The thickness values of mesophyll region represented by upper epidermis+ palisade tissue, lower epidermis + spongy tissue and mesophyll for Pleno cultivar were high than those exited in mesophyll region Univers cultivar. |
