Abstract
The aim of the present work was to study (he difference between the symptoms of schizophrenia with which cases presented in the sixties and those with which cases presented in the nineties. One hundred schizophrenic patients allocated into 2 groups according to (he duiadoii of illness were included in [his study. Group I: 50 schizophrenic patients had the 1st attack of schizophrenic symptoms in the sixties, while group TI 50 schizophrenic patients had the ldt attack of schizophrenic symptoms in the nineties. The selected patients were chosen from El-Mammon psychiatric hospital, Rl-Hadara University Hospital and from the attendants of the out¬ patients psychiatric clinic of Alexandria Main University Hospital. The study was carried out within duration of 6 months starting from May 1999. All patients were subjected to full medical examination to exclude organic causes and full psychiatric examination according to DSM TV criteria for diagnosis of schizophrenia and its subtypes. The Brief psychiatric rating scale (BPRS) was applied for all patients .
