Abstract
The valve replacement in children and adolescents is occasionally necessary if the failing native valve cannot be repaired.Traditionally, the success of treatment has been measured in terms of survival,but with children now expected to live long term after mitral valve replacement., this has become a less powerful end point and it is increasingly important to gain insight into their quality of life.
This is of particular important after mitral valve replacement as the currently favored mechanical prostheses require permanent anticoagulation, and this has obvious implications for the life style of the child.
