Abstract The aim of this work is to study the effects of stents used after ureteral procedures regarding symptoms, infection, obstruction and renal function, to define cases that require stenting after ureteral operations. And to compare stenting and non stenting of the ureter after ureteral procedures whether open or endoscopic. Conclusion: 1- in the majority of patients undergoing open unilateral simple extra peritoneal distal ureteral manoeuvres, postoperative complications as regards infection, hematuria are less in non stented cases, but the obstructer are improving more in stented cases. Although we recommend using stents only in difficult dissection or posterior wall injury of the ureter. 2- We don’t believe the routine use of ureteral stents after endoscopic ureteral manoeuvres is necessary in simple extraction of small uncomplicated ureteral stone. So, we recommend using of stents only if difficult extraction, long operative time, submucosal dissection, or lithotripsy was done. 3- When we need to place a ureteric stent, it is preferable to use less traumatic type and the most inert material as silicon. 4- In cases requiring placement o ureteral stents, we recommend not to prolong the period of stenting as much as possible to avoid postoperative complications of prolonged stenting. However, a longer period of follow up on a larger scale of patients is required to have a final conclusion. |
