Abstract

This study was aimed to evaluate the role of maternal serum creatine phosphokinase in diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy.
In conclusion, the association of HCG determinations and ultrasound scanning still remain the best para clinical support for an early diagnosis of ectopic implantation.
The additive value of serum creatine phosphokinase to β-human chronic gonadotrophin and ultrasonography has been of major practical importance particularly in the early tubal pregnancy and in population at high risk for tubal pregnancy. However, all the prospective studies did not demonstrate that serum creatine phosphokinase levels alone might help to predict ectopic pregnancy early before the patients become symptomatic. In order to assist in preventing maternal morbidity, a more discriminative test is needed to identify this condition early in gestation.
In the further newer biochemical markers may provide useful in the diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy and accordingly, decreasing maternal morbidity.
