Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to compare the safety and effectiveness of Foley’s catheter as a new method of balloon thermal endometrial ablation with the standard balloon thermal ablation device: MenoTreat
Conclusion:
Balloon thermal ablation using Foley’s catheter carries all the advantages of MenoTreat including short hospital stay, reduced morbidity and early return to normal activities. Although the success rate with Foley’s catheter is comparable with MenoTreat, yet, Foley’s catheter is inexpensive, easily available and could be done as an outpatient under local anaesthesia. In addition, it offers a true office procedure, requiring no additional training for the average gynaecologists, who for sure is capable of inserting the Foley’s catheter in the uterus blindly. Perhaps a well designed study Foley’s catheter in a larger number of women with dysfunctional menorrhagia, heating the endometrium for 12 minutes and changing the boiling saline every 2 minute. May give even better success rate, and this may be the solution for dysfunctional menorrhagia in the future.
