Abstract

This study was carried out during the period of 2005 and 2006 at Mallawy Agricultural Research Station, El-Minia Governorate and laboratories of Soil Sci. Dep., Agric. Fac., Minia Univ., to evaluate the direct and residual effects of some organic materials as amendments for virgin sandy soils of Minia Governorate. As a direct effect on tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) cv. Super strain B and as residual effect on eggplant (Solanum melongena var. esculentum) cv. Bettra (F1hybrid).
The virgin sandy soil used for this study was collected from Tona El - Gable desert land east of Malawi, Minia Governorate, Egypt.
Three organic materials used in this study were commercial compost namely Nile Compost (NC) and two raw organic materials namely filter mud (FM) from Abo-Kurkas sugar factory and water hyacinth (WH) from fresh water canal nearby Mallawy Agricultural Research Station, El-Minia Governorate.
Forty micro plots (cement builds) were prepared during the period from the first of Oct., to the end of Nov., 2005 and the size of each micro plot 1x2 m and 160 cm depth. The prepared soil was filled in the micro plots of 150 cm in depth
