Abstract Molluscan shellfish have great importance all over th world, this is attributed to two categories, the first is feeding: they contain high calories, proteins, minerals and elements especially phosphorus which make them distinguished from other kinds of marine food or any other sources of proteins. The second importance is sanitary: this is due to their filter feeding habits, so molluscan shellfish accumulate and concentrate the seawater constituents including all kinds of bacteria not only bacteria of sewage pollution (E.coli, True faecal type) but also the hannful bacteria such as salmonellae, Vibrio cholera and others. So, it is possible to evaluate the quality of seawater by chemi— cal and bacteriological examinations of filter feeding molluscan shellfish which are considered as the mirror which reflect all the seawater constituents. |
