Abstract

Insulin is a protein hormone produced by the Beta cells of the islets of Langerhans of the pancreas. Its preparations are used mainly in the treatment of diabetes mellitus.
Insulin level may be increased in the circulating blood as a result of pathological condition or following therapeutic uses of insulin that leading to hyperinsulinemia.
There are several cardiovascular risk factors associated with hyper insulinemia.
The aim of the present work was to show the sequential histological, histochemical and ultrastructural changes that might occur in the myocardium of the white Newzland rabbits with special reference to impulse conducting system and atrial specific granules after experimentally induced chronic hyperinsulinemia for different periods as well as the effect of withdrawal of insulin.
The present study was carried out on 78 male rabbits 2—3 months old and of an average weight of 1000—1200 grams. They were categorized into three groups.
