Abstract The present work deal with the study of the rate of mass transfer in a reactor suitahle for clectroorganic synlhesis which involves using mercury pool cathode under single phase (electrolyte) flow, gas (N2) sparging and two phase flow (gas¬liquid). The study was carried out by measuring the limiting current or the cathodic ,reduction of potassium ferrieyanide in a large excess of NaOH the effect of the following variables on the rate of mass transfer was studied. 1-N2 flow rate 2-Physical properties of the solution(p,M,d) 3- solution velcity 4-feed nozzle diameter 5-feed nozzle orientation (paralled, tangential, axial) The study has revealed Ihe following results: 1- Under single phase flow, the mass transfer coefficient increases with increasillg the solution velocily and decreasing nozzle diamcler. The rate of mass transfer was found to be highest in case or axial feed followed by :parallel feed and tanential feed spectively. 2- Gas sparging and two phase flow were found to be more effective in enhancing the rate of mass transfer than single phase flow. 3- Mathematical treatment of the mass transfer data uSing the method of dimensionless analysis resulted . |
