Abstract

‎The present work deal with the study of the rate of mass transfer in a reactor suitahle for clectroorganic synlhesis which involves using mercury pool cathode under single phase (electrolyte) flow, gas (N2) sparging and two phase flow (gas¬liquid). ‎The study was carried out by measuring the limiting current or the cathodic ,reduction of potassium ferrieyanide in a large excess of NaOH the effect of the following variables on the rate of mass transfer was studied.
1-N2 flow rate
2-Physical properties of the solution(p,M,d)
3- solution velcity
4-feed nozzle diameter
5-feed nozzle orientation (paralled,tangential,axial)
The study has revealed Ihe following results:
‎1- Under single phase flow, ‎the mass transfer coefficient increases with ‎increasillg the solution velocily and decreasing nozzle diamcler. The rate of mass transfer was found to be highest in case or axial feed followed by :parallel feed and ‎tanential feed spectively. ‎2- Gas sparging and two phase flow were found to be more effective in enhancing the rate of mass transfer than single phase flow. ‎3- Mathematical treatment of the mass transfer data uSing the method of dimensionless analysis resulted .
