Abstract

RA is a chronic autoimmune systemic inflammatory disorder that leads to joint destruction and disability and can affect TMJ in more than 50% of
patients.
The highest standard of patient care suggests using both patient history and clinical examination, supplemented with proper radiographic technique(s)
as adjunctive diagnostic procedures for assessment of TMJ.
This study was conducted as an attempt to assess osseous involvement of TMJ in rheumatoid arthritis by clinical study, multislice CT scanning, and multiplanar reconstruction.
Forty eight TMJs in twenty four female patients were comprised in this study.
All the patients were suffering from RA for more than five years. Clinical and MSCT findings were analyzed to reveal the relation between the clinical condition of the patients and their osseous involvements of the TMJs.
Out of the 24 patients, 70.8% showed association between the clinical and radiographic findings.
From the results of the present study, the followings conclusions could be achieved:
􀂾 Evidence has been demonstrated in the current work for high frequency, prevalence and association of clinical and radiographic TMJ findings in RA patients.
