Abstract The aim of this work was to predict and determine the fertilizing potential of sperm by measuring their ability to undergo in vitro decondensation tested by the chromatin stability test among infertile varicocele patients as well as patients with idiopathic infertility. The results showed that the control subjects have a percentage of 72.30% of decondensed sperm, the idiopathic group showed 70.91%, the varicocele fertile group showed 74.73%, whereas the varicocele infertile showed 67.47% preoperatively that changed to 56.53% 6 months after surgery. No correlation between the mean percentage of decondensed sperm and semen parameters was detected in the 4 studied groups. There was a significant difference regarding the mean age of patients between the control and varicocele infertile patients. Also, such a difference was found between varicocele fertile and infertile groups as well as control and idiopathic groups. Such groups also showed significant difference regarding the duration of marriage. (Author / FT). |
