Abstract

The scrotum contains the testes, their associated ducts, and the lower parts of the spemtatic cords, all in their coverings. The superficialfascia has no fat, and contains a layer of involuntaty nntscle (dams) vvhich decreasesthe surface area of the scrotum by its contraction. This helps to regulate the loss of heat through the thin, fat-free skin and so controls the temperature of the testes during cold seasons, an essential prerequisite for normal spennatogenesis.(13)
Testis:
The adult testis nonnally measures 4.6 cm in the longest diameter (range 3.6-5.5 an) and 2.6 cm in width (range 2.1-3.2 cm). The testis is suspended in the scrotum by scrotal tissues including the non-striated danos muscle and the spermatic cords. The only scrotal attachment of the testis is with the gubemaculum testis. The left testis is usually at lower level than the right one. The testis is surrounded by a dick outer capsule composed of tluve layers: the visceral layer of thetunics vaginalis, the tunics albugin’ ea, and the inner tunics vasolose. The tunics albuginea thickens posteriorly and fonns a big mass of comiective tissue called the mediastinum testis from which connective tissue septa radiate, and extend through the testis until they fitse with the tunica, dividing the testis into about 250 small conical compartments called lobules. Each lobule contains two or three long convoluted tubules, called seminiferous tubules, each has a length of 30-50 cm, and a diameter of about 200 microns
