Abstract

Ercan et al (70) did their study on Sixty-nine patients with known malignancy and suspected cranial metastases. Parenchymal metastases were demonstrated in 33 patients. Compared with T1W images, postcontrast FLAIR images showed more metastases in five patients (15.15%), an equal number in 20 (60.6%), and fewer lesions in eight (24.24%).
The current study results showed that there were no statistically significant differences as regards the size of lesions detected by CE T1 and CE FLAIR images (p > 0.05). CE FLAIR sequence showed larger lesion size in five cases (22.72%) two extra axial and three intra axial , smaller lesion size in four cases (18.18%) two extra axial and two intra axial and equal lesion size in 13 cases (59.1%) three extra axial and 10 intra axial compared with CE T1WI .
Essig et al (67) reported that CE FLAIR images showed smaller lesion size compared to T1WI. They evaluated the effect of contrast material on fast fluid-attenuated inversion-recovery (FLAIR) magnetic resonance images for 16 patients with enhancing gliomas and 12 patients with cerebral metastases. This was explained by them in the view that the fast FLAIR images were obtained immediately after the administration of contrast material and approximately 5 minutes before the T1-weighted SE images. It has been also reported that
