Abstract the idea of this thesis is to simulate the behavior of the air flow inside a room ventilated using displacement ventilation system. The limited existing knowledge concerning air flow in displacement ventilation rooms is a strong incentive to carry out a simulation for the flow field and examining the different effects on the overall performance of the system. In this research, three’l11ajor objectives were considered. First, the simulation of the characteristics (air flow velocities, temperatures, and contamination concentration) of the room air under the effect of the buoyancy, driven flow, showing how that may create a healthy environment in the, zone where human exists. To achieve the simulation task, the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is applied in terms of. a numerical turbulence model, the theory of k-E . model is briefly discussed, then the numerical solution procedure is addressed. Second, investigation of the various effects that may take place when. changing some system parameters that may affect the entire flow pattern. Examining the effect of the main parameter that controls the performance of buoyancy driven. ’displacement ventilation’ system, which. is ’Archimedes Number’. Finally,. a comparative study between the displacement ventilation ” . system and the conventional mixing ventilation systems was obtained, , showing. the main differences occurring in the flow field, affecting the human comfort and the ’Indoor air quality’. Emphasizing the main advantages of applying the displacement ventilation system, wherever . applicable, and its major role as an ’Energy efficient’ system. |
