Abstract

1.1. Introduction Weirs are a devices have been used since a long time to control water level and the discharge in the open channels for purposes of the irrigation and navigation. Many investigation have studied the weir discharge, the characteristics of flow and the effect of certain parameter on the performance of the weirs such as the shap and weir slope. The aim of this investigation is therefore to give more information for the effect of the slope and the height of the standing wave weir on its performance. Also, an empirical formulas were determined the value of discharge coefficient for different conditions of flow. This type of weirs are suitable for the conditions of costal marches. There is small difference in water le v1s between the constal marches and the sea due to the effect of tides. This difference in water levels is changing from time to time which make a difficulty to any constricting for controlling the coastal marches level. Experiments were carried out n the fluid mechanics laboratory of the Faculty of Engineering, Suez Canal University to measure the flow rates and the head of water upstream and downstream the tested models. Fourteen models with a slope up to 15:1 and different heights were used through the present investigation.
