Abstract

The present study was planned to determine nitrogen dioxide emission from soil and monitor nitrogen dioxide gas in the environment around AQFCIC, which was expected to be a major pollutant source that comes out from the company stacks.
1- Determination of NO2 Emissions from Soib
A chamber technique with an area 1 m2 has been prepared to determine the emission of N02 from soil at two different areas. At Elnahda area the emission from unfertilized control soil ranged from 0.270 to 0.304 ng/m2/s for four times during one month, the emission from soil amended with inorganic fertilizer (ammonium nitrate) ranged from 0.420 to 0.446 ng/m2/s for four times during one month, and the emission from soil amended with organic fertilizer (manure) ranged from 0.430 to 0.520 ng/m2/s for four times during one month. On the other hand the emission from unfertilized and polluted soil at Abu-Qir area ranged from 0.120 to 0.124 ng/m2/s for four times during one month also.
Emission of N02 from soil is controlled by many parameters, where it exhibits high spatial and temporal variability because of variation in the soil physical, chemical and biological parameters that influence
