Abstract The present work was carried out to compare pethidine analgesia and fentanyl analgesia as a techniques for supplementation of local infiltration for ear and nose surgery. The work involved fifty patients who where clinically free from any cardiovascular or respiratory diseases. Premedication consisted of 1 mg atropine sulphate and 3-5 mg/kg phenobarbitone given intramuscularly 15-30 minutes before operation. The present study was conducted on 5 equal groups, each group comprised ten patients. In the group I, (the control) patients received chlorpromazine and pethidine (25-50 mg) I.H. and this group was coincided with the routine daily work of ENT surgeons. Group II patients received pethidine 2 mg/kg I.M., group III patients received I.V. infusion of pethidine and the dose was calculated at the end of operation, Group IV patients received fentanyl 0.05-0.1 mg I.H. and lastly group V patients received I.V. infusion of fentanyl and the dose was calculated at the end of operation. |
