Abstract

General anaesthesia was performed on 35 dogs of different ages and body weights premedicated with diazepam intravenous injection.
Group 1:
- The dogs received diazepam in a dose rate of 2 mg/kg b. wt. I. V. The experimental animals in this group showed mild sedation, short time of recumbency (20 minutes) followed by marked incoordination. There were fast pulsation and quick respiration.
Group 2:
- The animals were injected with diazepam (1 mg/kg b.wt.) followed by ketamine HC1 (10 mg/kg b.wt.). The induction time of anaesthesia was 4.88 minutes, the average recumbency period was 29.87 minutes and the depth of anaesthesia lasted for 40 minutes. The skin reflex was abolished and all reflexes were sluggished except the eye reflexes were present.
- No change in body temperature after injection while there was increase in the pulse and respiratory rates.
Group 3:
- Diazepam injected I.V. (1 mg/kg b.wt.) as a premedication followed by injection of rompun (1 mg/kg) and ketamine HCT (5 mg/kg).
