Abstract

The vibrations results from a rail vehicle dynamic system is a very importar1l problem especially for high-speed railways. These vibration is dependent on the train, track and foundation input to the model of solution. An important part of the input data is the wheel/rail interaction that exist on actual track. The previous studies studied the problem from the frequencies or annoyance point of view. This thesis study the problem from another point of view which is the vibration displacements and velocities. The thesis discussed the previous studies in the fields of vibration analysis vibration measuring instruments, high-speed railways, noise and vibrations in railways, and railways modeling. Then two models for train track li:lundation systems were suggested in both vertical and horizontal directions, and a software called VARTS is provided to solve these two models. The soflware used fOur kinds of vcrtical wheel/mil interaction forces and two kinds of horizontal forces. VAR1’S also deals with both traditional and emhedded railway systems and measures the vibration displacements and velocities. The software were written by Vi:o;ual Ba.~ic and used the MATLAB program to solve the diiTcrcntial equations in the model. A validation was then pcrfimned with meaSllred data. The results showed that using Koffinan vertical force and VARTS model J gives the largest values fnr vertical vibration displacements, where using Grassie vertical furce and VARTS model II gives the lowest values. The important result is that the mass is more important than the elasticity. Also we can notice that the variation in the results increases with the decreasing of the masses and be too close with the increa.. : nf masses. Also it is noticed that the largest vertical or horizontal vibration displacement value was at the sleeper in the track part and at the coach at the train part because both clements are the farther element from the wheel/rail contact point which the force is exists. That makes these elements vibrates similar to lhe ftee vibration where other clements vibrate as furced vibration. For horizontal vibration displacements we notice that the use of horizontal French force gives values greater than those values, which we obtained when we use horizontal German force. Also where there is no difference between results of VARTS model I and V ARTS model II for the same vertical force due to the effuctiveoess of wheeVrail irregularities.
