Abstract Power system stability problems have attracted the attention of searchers and engineers of power systems for several decades. Stability of AC systems can be improved by various methods. Considerable progress has been made on excitation control, governor control ,power system stabilizer and so on. In AC/DC systems , HVDC links offer another means for improving the system stability. FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission Systems) devices, such as series capacitors, shunt capacitors and phase shifters, are utilized for dynamically adjusting the network configuration to enhance steady state performance as well as transient stability in power systems. This thesis deals with the damping of the power system electromechanical oscillations on AC/DC parallel system using controllable series components(series capacitors and phase shifters) and controllable shunt capacitors. The controllable series capacitors are located on the AC transmission line and the phase shifter is located near the generator, while the controllable shunt capacitors are located close to the load. |
