Abstract Irrigating a farm is a basic frequent activity for almost all farmers. However, it has been one of the main reasons for the loss of great fresh water quantities each year. Traditional modern irrigation systems analysis and design methods are performed using statistical or analytical techniques influenced by a great deal of personal judgment. Most tools and techniques are case specific and therefore cannot be used on a generic level. The advantages of having one tool that can automate and integrate the modern irrigation system design techniques and procedures on wide scope are therefore obvious. A computer-based irrigation systems design utility, named Modern Irrigation System Design Utility (MISDU), has been developed. It is intended to provide a comprehensive analysis and design tool for various modern irrigation systems. In this current version, MISDU tackles two irrigation systems, namely: Drip irrigation systems, and center pivot irrigation systems. The drip irrigation system is designed using six preset layouts; while the center pivot irrigation system is designed using two preset arrangements. MISDU does not only provide analysis and design capabilities it also considers economical aspects thus minimizing the cost of the designed system |
