Abstract Carbamazepine is one of the most commonly prescribed antiepileptic and antipsychotic drugs. Its long term use makes it frequently prescribed in combination with other drugs. One of those drugs are the calcium channel blockers. This makes the possibility of drug interaction between them. The aim of this study is to evaluate carbamazepine combined therapy with (diltiazem, verapamil and nifedipine and their effect on serum carbamazepine level, AST, ALT, Alkaline phosphatase, serum bilirubin, prothrombin time, serum Albumin, complete blood count, ECG changes and histopathological changes in the liver, heart and brain of rats receiving both drugs in therapeutic doses and for 2 periods of administration 2 and 4 weeks and to compare the degree of these interaction to know the least interacting calcium channel blockers |
