Abstract

With increasing the human activities in the industrial field and with the natural increasing in the temperature of the earth, it was needed to use a structural materials have some sort of thermal insulating and resistant for high temperature. The lightweight concrete considered from the main materials that used for thermal insulating, it could be easily obtained when some of the sand and stone aggregate in normal construction concrete is replaced with lightweight aggregate. The lightweight aggregate have a low density due to its high content of cavities inside it, this aggregate can be obtained naturally or by production from a natural source or industrial west Compressive strength and density are two of the most important parameters of structural lightweight concrete. It can easily distinguished between two different types of lightweight concrete based on its purpose of use; insulating concrete which has high thermal insulating properties and very low strength, and the structural lightweight concrete with its high strength but boor thermal insulating properties.
This study aims investigate the effect of high temperature (up to 300) on the both kind of the lightweight aggregate concrete; Besides the studying of the different properties of thermal insulating concrete and structural concrete prepared using the lightweight expanded clay (leca), that produced by El-Kawmeya Portland Cement Company, as coarse and fine aggregate.
Two types of design based on different percentage of cement and leca content was used to produce two different kind of lightweight concrete with rang of densities; first one used for thermal insulating purpose and the other used as structural concrete.
