Abstract

Cardiotoxicity is one of the most important causes of morbidity and mortality in children with Hodgkin disease. It has been associated with the use of anthracycline, or radiotherapy and when both treatment modalities have been combined the risk of cardiotoxicity has been enhanced.
Adriamycin induced cardiomyopathy varies from pericarditis, valvular lesions up to congestive heart failure.
This study was conducted on 29 children with Hodgkin lymphoma (17 male and 12 female). Their age ranged from 4 years to 14 years (mean 8.4 + 3.3). All received 6-8 cycles of ABVD without radiotherapy at Oncology/Hematology Unit, Pediatric Hospital, Ain Shams University compared with 10 newly diagnosed Hodgkin patients who received < 2 cycles of ABVD as a control. All children were subjected to through clinical examination, laying stress on cardiovascular and anthropometric examination and laboratory work up including CBC, kidney and liver functions. Also patients were subjected to ECG, Echocardiography (M-mode, 2D and Doppler images) and Radionuclide ventriculography to assess the structural and functional abnormalities.
