Abstract

Twenty five Egyptian honey bee colonies in about equal strength, after being transferred in modern movable frame hives headed by open mated pure queens were transported from agriculture management to Siwa Oasis station research during February, 2004. For study (during 2005/2006) the biology, morphology, pollen gathering and activates of the colonies. For biological result, the incubation period of the Egyptian fertilized eggs was varies from 68-82hr.(2.83 to3.42 days), with an average of 74.59±1.432hr.(3.108±0.5127 days), The larval period of the worker varies from 96-116 hr.(4-4.83 days ).The average value of sealed worker brood was 269.668±0.2806 hr.(11.24±0.0406 days). The general rang of developmentally worker stages (longevity of workers) was 343 – 476 hr. (18.08-19.83 days) with a mean value of 450.86 hr.,(18.79 days).for morphological studies, the first wax mirror gland of the worker were 1.08-1.48 mm in length with mean of 1.30±0.0126 and from1.85-2.25 mm. in width , with mean of 2.02±0.0165mm. in the first year and from 1.20-1.40mm. With mean of 1.28±0.0083mm. in length and from 1.80-2.05mm.in width with mean of 1.93±0.0106mm in the second year, the length of left forewing was 7.90-8.75mm., with an average of 8.19±0.0700mm. in the first year and 7.65-8.45mm.with an average of 8.11±0.0601 mm. in the second year while the mean width was 2.65-2.95 mm. with an average of 2.76±0.0107mm.in the first year and from 2.55-2.90mm.with an average of 2.76±0.0133mm in the second year. The mean number of hooks on the hind wing was 18-27 with an average of 21.35±0.3214in first year and 20-25 with an average of 21.80±0.2213 in the second year. The cubital index varying from 1.80-2.75 with a mean value 2.20±0.0424 in the first year while it were 1.60-2.50with a mean value 2.10±0.035 in the second year. The mean length of the proboscis varies from 5.53-5.95mm. with the mean value of 5.64±0.0516mm. in the first year, while it was 5.30-6.10mm.with the mean 5.70±0.1136mm.in the second year. the mean length femur varies from 2.30-2.45mm.with a mean of 2.35±0.0073mm in the first year with a mean value of 2.35±0.0088 in the second year. the mean length of tibia was 2.75-3.00mm.with a mean of 2.91±0.085mm in the first year, while it was 2.65-3.00mm. with a mean of 2.88±0.0132mm.in the second year, the length of basitarsus was 1.80-2.00mm. with a mean value 1.91±0.0071mm.in the first year, and were 1.70-2.10mm.with a mean of 1.88±0.0125mm.in the second year, and the width of basitarsus was 1.00-1.15mm.with a mean of 1.05±0.007mm in the first year and was 1.05-1.20mm. with a mean of 1.08±0.0059mm.in the second year. The mean length of flagellum was 2.60-2.86mm.with a mean of 2.73±0.0101mm.in the first year and was 2.575-2.850mm. with a mean of 2.70±0.0101mm in the second year. Including pollen gathering activity.
Including periodical pollen gathering activity the highest amount of pollen (55.68gram / col.) was during Summer season represented 31.26% of the total pollen. Spring season came next with an amount of pollen (51.67gram /col.) represented 29.0% of the total yield of the year. Autumn season recorded 38.98gram /colony which represented 21.89% and lastly the lowest amount of the collected pollen (31.80gram / col.) was recorded during Winter season which represented 17.85% of the total collected pollen.
