Abstract

The present work deals with the theoretical study of the dielectronic recombination (DR), which is one of the most important recombination processes in high-temperature plasmas. This process occurs in electron-ion collisions (e/I) where free electrons are captured by the ions. In DR process, a bound electron is excited by the simultaneous radiationless capture of a free electron through the formation of resonant doubly excited intermediate (d) state. When this d-state decays by photon emission, the DR process is completed.
The DR cross sections are calculated for P7+, Ar10+, V15+ and Fe18+ O-like ions with K-shell excitation using the adapted angular momentum average scheme (AMA) in the isolated resonance approximation (IRA). All bound state wave functions required in these calculations are generated by the single configuration Hartree-Fock (SCHF) program while the continuum wave functions are obtained using the distorted wave approximation (DWA).
The results of the present work may be summarized as follows:
1. The DR rates for all of P7+, Ar10+, V15+ and Fe18+ O-like ions is varying smoothly with the thermal energy of the continuum electrons. The asymmetry around the peak value is verified for all curves of DR rates, which reflects the nature of the Maxwellian distribution for the continuum electron velocities.
2. The peak value of increases as the atomic number (Z) of the ion increases. Also the peak is shifted to higher energies of the continuum electron as Z increases.
