Abstract

The present study deals with the geological, mineralogical and geochemical studies on the occurrences of rare metal mineralization at Abu Rusheid area, south Eastern Desert of Egypt . It is located between longitudes 34 46’ 00” to 34 46’ 35” E , and latitude 24 37’ 16” to 24 38’ 00”.
The Abu Rusheid area is covered by ophiolitic mélange, non-mineralized mylonite rocks, and mineralized mylonite granitic rocks, and post-granite dykes and veins.
Different facies were recognized on contents mineralized mylonitic granites according convection to deformation grade into: protomylonite, mylonite ultramylonite and silicified ultramylonite.
In contemporaneous decrease of temperature and increasing pH due to decrease of temperature and increasing pH due to decreasing pressure are considered the essential factors for localization of disseminated mineralization of zircon, columbite and sulphides. Sulphides are dominantly pyrite with smaller amounts of chalcopyrite, chalococite, sphalerite and covellite .
The enhanced uranium and thorium contents in the alteration and deformation facies of mineralized mylonitic granites coupled with the significant secondary uranium mineralization may indicate the mineralized nature for Abu Rusheid mineralized mylonitic granites. The high uranium and thorium contents are stabilized in Th & U minerals and in refractory accessory minerals (zircon & columbite).
