Abstract

Total Quality Management (TQM) is a philosophy that calls for organizational
excellence and building quality in all aspects of the business operations. TQM helps organizations to survive and to compete in today’s marketplace. This can be achieved through inculcating a quality improvement mindedness and designing a management system that prevents problems.
This thesis presents the principles and elements of TQM implementation in the construction industry. Some theoretical considerations are widely represented. A study of the Egyptian construction industry and TQM organization and its implementation in Egypt is discussed in details. Also, advocacy to implementing TQM philosophy in the Egyptian construction industry is presented in details.
An investigation of the quality management practices of construction companies in Egypt was carried out to determine the limitations and considerations of its implementation. Moreover; a strategy for implementing TQM in construction industry is also presented. The main objective of this thesis is to explore, evolve, and appraise a feasible methodology for construction and quality management in Egypt.
The questionnaire has been carefully designed to explore the details of TQM in the Egyptian construction industry after reviewing relevant literature on quality management. The questionnaire includes three parts; each part includes sections comprising several items such as company information and the role of the quality department. The remaining sections explore various quality dimensions such as the role of top management, employee participation, training, supplier quality, cost of quality, and operational results.
The conclusions and recommendations stated in this thesis will be of help and benefit to the construction organizations in the practical construction field.
