Abstract The bacterial strain that produced considerable inhibition zone against Envinia amylovora was isolated from marine environment. The inhibitory substance produced by those bacterial strains could be of an antibiotic or bacteriocinic character. The positive results reported in this work indicated • that some of the isolated bacterial strains have the ability to produce an antagonistic substance that exhibits inhibitory activity against \Erwinia amylovora. (78-81) . However, the negative results obtained in response to other bacterial )lates do not necessarily indicated that the antagonistic substances were sent. This could be due to lack of specific receptors, lack of mechanism for isporting antagonistic substance, or due to the resistance of the indicator un to such substance (80,81). The antimicrobial agent produced by the bacterial isolate BS82 was :ipally secreted during the mid log phase of cell growth. Its production in jrnatant of liquid culture facilitates its purification and avoids further reatment needed to the elaborate antimicrobial agent, either from the agar |
